Bullet Journal April 2018

Sometimes, you just don’t have the time to get all arty farty with your bullet journal… but that doesn’t mean you still can’t make it adorable!

I’ve been dying to try Close to My Heart’s new thin cuts… and I decided to use my bullet journal to try them out!

They work with your big shot or cuttlebug die cut machine. If you don’t know what that is, you’ll see it in the process video. It cuts out the shapes for you by essentially squeezing. lol.  And with the thin cuts sets, you have a coordinating set of stamps so you can make a perfect cut out to stamp. This one is called Rain or shine Paper Doll (my daughter picked out…. not surprised… it’s an adorable set!)

So when it got to be the day before Easter and I still hadn’t prepped for April in my journal, I knew I had to keep it simple.

I saw this set with the raincoat and umbrella, and I thought… how perfect for April! Though we did start out the month with a little snow here in New Jersey…

Though I love to doodle, using this stamp set made it super easy to get a quick set up ready for this month. And I think it turned out super cute!

I also used some watercolors with the Close to my heart water brush. Another tool that I love! You can skip the jar of water because it’s already in the brush; you just squeeze and go!

So here’s my simple weekly set up. It’s pretty much the same as last months because that seemed to work well. I use the bottom sections for night activities and bills that are due. So instead of using a separate budget page, (which I tried in January and ended up abandoning), I just kinda keep track of spending on the bottom of each day.

So I would definitely call this a minimalist bullet journal spread. I’ve found I don’t really use the monthly trackers. I have yearly ones set up in the beginning of the notebook, and those seem to be working out better for me for now.

I did a quick process video so you can see how it all came together.

All the products I used are listed in the description box below the video.

Thanks for stopping by!

Ok, let’s try this again! New Bullet Journal!

Scribbles DO matter!!!!

So this will be my new tool for getting organized this year! Love this Scribbles that Matter notebook. So cute. lol.

And here are the pens I will mostly be using. So far, I haven’t really strayed from this core kit.

Microns I always seem to have handy because they are perfect for Bible marking, but the other two sets I got as Christmas presents. And so far, I’ve LOVED them! If you’re getting microns, make sure you get size 005. They are so super fine and tiny! You can write notes to your hamsters!

And the Faber Castell is the artist pit pen set. So there are a couple brush pens, as well as a small marker tip, a felt tip… and some fine liners as well. The XS faber might be as small as the 005 micron. I feel like I can use it interchangeably with the black micron.

And the Tombow brush pens are beautiful. This set is pastel, so they are light enough to use for backgrounds, or for drop shadows, or for some pretty modern calligraphy.

Here are pics of some of my favorite pages so far.

Weekly to-do

I have to say, I’m into my second week using this, and so far it’s motivated me to check off those tasks. It’s also forced me to say things like, “Hey, I’d really like to go to bed, but it’ll only take five minutes for me to check off that last task for today….”  But even if I don’t get to everything I think I can in a day, I can always migrate it to the next day.

So here’s a detailed walk through of my bullet journal so far if you’re interested!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy the rest of January!

Doodle Doosday- Sketch Ice King

Today we sketched us some Ice King! He’s pretty cold… and he’s pretty pointy.

Here’s Roo’s sketch:

And here’s mine:

So far these characters have been pretty simple to sketch. Join us next week for another adventure time character! Who is it gonna be???

Here is our process for this week if you’d like to sketch along:

*we also did a little sneak preview of our Jake costume we made*  heh heh

Bible Journaling – Psalm 100

1  Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
    Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the Lord, he is God!
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

For the past couple weeks, we’ve been working on memorizing Psalm 100.  We used it this week for our Bible journaling.

I felt like painting a bird, and Roo felt like painting a person acting like a bird. Lol

Our pages naturally kinda end up along the same lines since we do them together all the time.

Psalm 100’s main idea is about giving thanks to the Lord. Praise him with singing! We honed in on that concept by decorating our pages with music notes.

Here is our process video!  Hope you enjoy!

Let us know if you journal the same page, we’d love to see some new ideas!

God Bless!

Doodle Doosday – Sketch Finn the human

In keeping with October’s Adventure Time theme, we’ve finally gotten around to drawing Finn the human. Finn is the main character of the show…  Well. I guess Finn and Jake are of equal importance…  but anyway, here are our sketches!

Finn, like all the characters so far, is a pretty simple sketch. He’s basically a rectangle with some skinny spaghetti limbs.

Join us in real time and sketch along:

Thanks for stoppin’ by!

Bullet Journaling – October

So I’m attempting to keep track of my tasks this month again with a Bullet Journaling system.  I didn’t get too fancy, but I was able to add some watercolor leaves throughout. I’m keeping the whole thing fairly simple to start. I attempted some Bullet Journaling over the summer, but I think I took on too much, and never could motivate myself to get back to it. So I’m trying again with a simpler set up and only two trackers. One for study and one for projects.

If you wanna see my process, here’s the video!

Thanks for stopping by, and hopefully I can do another spread for November and let you know how October went… lol.

Bible Journaling – Proverbs 8

For todays Bible Journaling page, we landed on Proverbs 8, and verses 10 and 11 stood out to us,

“Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her”

So this is what we came up with:

Roo wanted to show that someone was thinking, so she drew a lightbulb over her lady’s head. And then she added some jewels and stuff.

This is the first time I’ve done a more cartoon like character. I kinda think I might do more of this kind of doodling in the future. It kinda takes the pressure off to make it look realistic. My person is studying and as she studies more and more, she begins to show more fruit… which is why I added some fruit between the books in the stack… lol.  Silly…  but anyway…  and then I added my jewels at the bottom and lettered the words for part of the scripture.

We did a “quicker than usual” process video this time. Lol. Sometimes we just like to talk…  But anyway, lately I’ve been getting a lot of questions about “How” to Bible Journal. So I tried to explain a little during the video what I’ve been doing. Although I’m pretty sure there’s no wrong way, I found that when I actually thought about a way to kinda speed up the thinking process, things went a lot smoother. Sometimes it takes a while to put pen to paper because you feel like it has to be perfect… but it doesn’t. As long as it helps you carry God’s word in your heart and understand it better, than your job is done. As well, it has to be something you want to do. If you force yourself, then it’s going to cause stress and anxiety.

Here’s our process video:

Enjoy and God Bless!

Doodle Doosday! Sketch Jake!

Yay! It’s Doodle Doosday which means it’s time to get sketchy!

Today we drew us some Jake the dog. Jake is an awesome character because he can change his shape into anything he wants. He can stretch, shrink, and grow. He’s Finn’s best bud and is always helping him out when he’s in trouble. We could all use a friend like that…

So join us and doodle along!
Here is our process video!

Have fun doodling and God Bless,

Bible Journaling – Psalm 119, Verse 105

Psalm 119:v105:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

This is the verse we are memorizing this week in Roo’s school, so we decided to Bible Journal it.

Psalm 119 has a lot to do with God’s word… essentially, the Bible itself and how we should use it. God’s word strengthens us, it upholds us, and it teaches us. If we are in God’s word every day, we become more and more aware of what it actually says, and not what other people tell us it says. I know that sounds ridiculous, but more and more I find people that never actually open the Bible and just rely on what they hear from others. The more we study it, the more we gain from it… the more wisdom is unveiled. If we are not using it, we are walking around in darkness; prey to any whim of emotion or tickling from wolves.

“My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.” vs. 136

Check out our process video as we discuss the verse a little and then do some journaling.

Thanks and God Bless!
