Saturday Sewing Sesh- September/October 2017 plans

We will be doing quite a lot of sewing this year, and we thought we’d share what projects we’re planning for the next several weeks!

With Halloween around the corner, I realized that we’d better start on our costumes!

Our theme this year is Adventure time.

Our project list:

Fiona
Ice Queen
Ice King
Finn
Marceline
BMO
Jake
(Banana Guard)
So we took a trip to JoAnn fabrics this weekend with our cousin Jen and her daughter Kylie. (We are also making a Sleeping Beauty costume for Kylie so that’s a little side project… maybe we’ll share that too…)

I think we will tackle Fiona first, since that’s who Roo is being.

Fiona

We didn’t get any patterns for this because it’s pretty much a shirt and skirt…  So far I grabbed some snuggy white cotton poly blend for the bunny ear hat, and two shades of Green duck for the backpack. And to kill two birds, I got enough for Finn as well.

For the Ice King and Queen, I didn’t grab any material, but I did grab these few patterns.

The King is just a basic robe, so no biggie… but the Queen I’ll have to kinda piece together something out of these two patterns and some imagination.

So that’s my starting point so far. We will keep you updated next Saturday as to how we’re doing or if we’ve made any progress. Lol…

Here’s a link to youtube if you would like to watch us babble about our sewing plans! Yay!

Saturday Sewing Sesh

Join us tuesday for a Doodle video! We will be drawing an Adventure time character!

Who will it be?

Close to my heart- Sugar Rush – stamping and fussy cutting – Love Art

Lately Friday nights have been crafty.

img_1886

Last friday we stayed up late again with some watercolors.  I love how kids can just come up with 10 paintings in one night and adults can maybe…  maybe complete one.

img_3449

So I decided to snap a pic of her painting in her light up kitty ear headphones and scrap it… immediately.  lol.

The stamp set I used was the January Stamp of the month set.

This month is is this:

Easter Bunny

So you can get prepared for Easter!  lol.  It’s a good idea to take advantage of the stamp of the month, because you can get it for $5 with a qualifying order. And then it’s gone…. sniff sniff….

img_3450

So for this layout I made embellishments by stamping, coloring and fussy cutting. You can see this process in the video below.

Stuff I used in this layout:

Micro tip Scissors

Water colors

Water color pencils

Sugar Rush kit

Foam tape

img_3452

And then I made a coordinating pocket page for the other side.  This seems to be my go-to style.  One 12×12 and a pocket page….  lol.

We did a part 1 and part 2 process since it was kinda long…

We’ll be back for more crafting next week!  God Bless!

I mean… Fitty and Roo!

Wilna’s Bear Coffee Cup Challenge

So this past friday night, Eleanor and I were hanging in the craft room and felt like watching some crafty vids on youtube while we played with glue and stuff. I scrolled through my subscriptions and came upon Wilna Furstenberg. And I was like.. “Yes!” She is our favorite paper crafter to watch on Youtube and it had been a while since we tuned in. So the first video we came across was this adorable coffee cup album featuring these adorable bears. As we continued to watch, she started talking about having a contest for whomever makes one of these albums and shares it on instagram. So we looked at each other and said, “Let’s DO IT!” And then we immediately scrambled into the kitchen to look for some paper coffee cups. We didn’t find any. It was almost 11pm. We walked out into the living room to ask Daryl if he thought Dunkin Donuts might still be open. He said yes and requested a hot chocolate. That was good enough for us, so we hopped in the car and drove to DD.

They were closed.

But luckily across the street from Dunkin is a McDonalds. That was open, so we decided to grab a few cups of hot beverage there. We got back home, dumped the liquid, and started working.

Wilna had links to some downloads we could use in the album. First, there were the ADORABLE watercolor bear images that she created! And also there were beautiful frames you could use to embellish your album. She also included cut files you could use for your Silhouette Cameo. Part of me is glad she included these cut files because it forced me to finally try out the print and cut feature on this machine. I can’t believe how long I’ve had my Silhouette and have never print and cut. It was so easy. And it really saved time fussy cutting images.

I was originally going to make my album about Norma, but as I scrolled through my phone, I had all these pictures of Eleanor posing in her Christmas Eve dress that I decided it would be a good way to use them.

Here are the details for this challenge if anyone else would like to play along: http://wilnafurstenberg.com/bears

You should visit her site anyway because she is amazing! Love her.

Eleanor chose to feature her new baby cousin Joshua. Sometimes I think she thinks he’s her doll that she can just play with as she pleases. So far, he lets her. He’s quite a content little guy. So we printed out some of the pics I had of them for her album. The cover is a cute snapchat pic of him as a deer. lol.  He makes a pretty cute little deer.

She loved the bear illustrations so much I think she used them all! They are adorable. The one I chose for my cover has a little dog on it’s head… which is why I originally wanted to do an album about Norma, … I might still do that. I saved another coffee cup.   On top of a lot of bears, Eleanor also used a bucket of hot glue sticks. I had to pick a lot of strings off her album when she was done. lol.  And it also made her album much bulkier than mine. I think she did a great job. It came out super cute!

We had so much fun making these albums. If anyone else decides to try one, we’d love to see it! The instagram hashtag is #bearscoffeecupchallenge.

Anyway, thanks again Wilna for the inspiration. See ya’ll later!

God Bless!

Saturday Scrapbooking – Seven

Fitty-scrapbooking-seven-eleanor-12x12-birthday

This one started as a single 12×12 layout, but ended up as a double… Ya know when you have a series of pics, and you just can’t decide which ones to highlight…

Actually, I had planned on a project life spread on the other side, but it ended up like this.

The background is just some acrylic paint smeared with some watercolor splatters… and some circles with my journaling pen.  Much of the rest is layering from pieces of this and that…  And then I just embellished a bit with some rub-ons and sequins.

I can’t believe I have a seven year old. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have more than one child… and they just keep getting older and older and smarter and bigger… and… AHHHH.  I’m gonna stop right there. We would probably be in that situation, but I suppose it’s not in God’s plan for us.

img_4199

So here is my process video!  It features music from my AMAZINGLY talented friend Hannah Guerra! Definitely go check out her music, it’s just gorgeous! I linked up her soundcloud down below for your convenience!

Enjoy!  And have a blessed Sunday!

12 Crafts of Christmas- Day 12 – December Daily Album

You didn’t think I’d make it through all 12 crafts without getting scrappy did you??? Ha! Well… I actually didn’t get too scrappy yet. But the scrapfest is inevitable due to this self-given prompt.

So for those of you who aren’t wrapped up in the Scrapbooking community like I am… especially around this time of year… you may not know what “December Daily” means.

This whole December Daily thing was started by Ali Edwards, a very talented scrapbooker among other things… So if you want to join in and are clueless, she has some kits to get you started on her site: Aliedwards.com

I have nothing new so far myself.  I’m aiming to jump into my stash and make most of it a kind of organic whatever I can find type thing. But I may grab a few festive bits here and there.

The idea is to document the month of december… daily…  with some kind of story. Even if you sat on the couch all day and watched “Elf,” you should include that. I don’t think there are any problems coming up with material to scrap because it’s the busiest month for most and there are usually at least 9 different parties to attend.

image

Well, I hate to admit this, but I’ve never actually finished a December Daily album. I’ve started them… had the best intentions… but for some reason… they just never got to the point of being display worthy. To be totally honest, most of my own mini albums never get finished.  I only finish the ones that I make as gifts. I must need that “deadline” to actually make things happen.

But this year, I’ve decided is the year! And I think the key is organization. In past years, I’ve waited until after the holidays to even think about this album. So this year, my last craft for the 12 Crafts of Christmas will be the first step to making my December Daily a reality!

image

I probably would have used another old book… but they all went to my Advent Calendar… lol.

I found this plain Kraft Binder that I never used. I believe I got it from Close to My Heart. But they have them at any craft supply store in all kinds of sizes.

So I’m looking at this binder… and I just didn’t want to do what I usually would do which is cover it with fabric, so I slept on it.  The idea came to me at 6am to paint it like a Christmas door… so I got up and got started.  Lol…    coffee is always made at that time anyway because I set it up the night before for my husband to just push the button in the morning before he leaves for work. So I got to work in my Christmas Owl jammies mommy got me for Christmas last year… and I got my cup of coffee and started marking out where I wanted  to cut holes for the top part of the door. I know I want to make the first inside page something that can peek through the cover.  Haven’t exactly planned it out yet, but that will be for another post. This is strictly a cover post.

image

I did end up using some fabric for the side. So… a little won’t hurt. But I think overall, I’m keeping the color scheme cool. I did a blue berry wreath on the front instead of a red one. Mainly because I had blue paint handy.  So after I saw the blue and white I mentally decided on a blue, grey, white color palatte for the rest.

image

So there’s nothing really to tell here because all I did was paint it so far. But I did a video of the painting if anyone wants a tutorial on how to paint an old white door with a blueberry wreath on it.  heh…  Well, not necessarily a tutorial because I don’t know anything about painting except that I like to do it.

So I used Golden Acrylics: Zinc White, Cerulean Blue, and Mars Black. A couple of Artist’s loft brushes, a sponge, and my fingers.  I may still add some green holly leaves perhaps. Haven’t decided if that will wreck the coldness of the cover.  We shall see!

Oh, and I also used an exacto knife to cut out the holes it the door! It wasn’t hard. The album is like a chipboard.. so didn’t take long to break through!

Anyway, thanks to all who have followed us through our 12 crafts!  We hope this has inspired someone to get crafty this Christmas!

Here is my painting vid to music. I like to listen to music when I paint so I figured I’d stop talking for this one. Lol. I was listening to Band of Horses and Andrew Bird while I painted this… but I don’t think I’m allowed to use their music for my video. haha… But I do reccomend doing your own painting while listening to them.

God Bless! Happy December!

12 Crafts of Christmas – Day 10 – Quilted Christmas Zipper Pouch

image

This is another project that you could simplify if need be. You can totally skip the “quilted” part and save yourself a few steps.

And to be honest, I originally did not plan on doing a quilted pouch.  I was just going to do a straight up normal run of the mill zipper pouch. But the closer Christmas gets… the more quilty I feel.

Have no idea what I mean by that. Someone does.

image

So anyway, for this zipper pouch as is, you will need:

  1. Fabric
  2. 7 in’ zipper – (like a dollar in walmart… sometimes less) You can also get a whole lot from amazon ridiculously cheap. If you’re planning on making christmas gifts… (wink)
  3. Batting – the fluffy stuff in the middle.  There are many different brands.  No need to break the bank here.  Should be able to get a roll for less than $5. And again, you can find this at walmart.
  4. If you are planning on quilting, make sure you locate your sewing machine’s quilting foot.  Mine looks like this. It should have some kind of circular hole at the bottom. And like I mention in the video, my sewing machine does not allow for the feed dogs to be dropped… so it kinda makes it difficult to do free motion sewing, but it is possible! So for small projects, most machines can quilt just fine.  If you have a darning plate attachment, that will help as well. I’m pretty sure mine came with one, but I can’t seem to locate it..  lol.  Also, these items are cheap on amazon. You can usually find a replacement for your machine pretty easily. Make sure it fits your machine though. My old singer quilting foot was a totally different beast than my Janome.  So be careful!

And that’s basically it. Very inexpensive to knock out a bunch of these.

You’ll need two pieces each of:

  1. Outside fabric
  2. Lining
  3. Batting

All cut at 8 x 7, or however big you want your pouch. I cut the batting slightly smaller. You can watch video for more details about that.

image

And even if you’ve never quilted before, I don’t think you need to worry about your stitches. I just kinda went wherever with them. For a gift, I may plan out a better design, but for the tutorial I didn’t get too serious about it.

image

For my outside, I first stitched four squares of different Christmas fabrics together. You don’t need to do this, but you can if you’re feeling extra adventurous! I think it made a nice effect.

So here’s our tutorial! Enjoy!

#LoveSummerArt

So there’s this amazing Hashtag Party goin’ on this weekend and it’s all kinds of Artastic!!  #LOVESUMMERART

image

If you’re an artist/creator youtuber, you can join the facebook group here: Youtube Channel Art and Crafts

If you are not a youtube creator and just want to enjoy the Arty vids, then just simply type in the hashtag #LoveSummerArt in the search bar on youtube and see what comes up!  I happened upon this by accident really… lol.  So as usual, I had like a day to come up with something… but it gave me an opportunity to pick up something I started and never finished.

So here is my #LoveSummerArt vid:

I had started a “beach” mini last June, and then with all the moving that went on this year, my arts and crafts were mostly in boxes so I never got the chance to finish it, but now that I’m back in business, I’m aiming to get it done within the next couple weeks.

I used this printable canvas for the cover image as well as an image of my daughter and my neice running on the beach.

image

Love this stuff! I use it for sewing projects, but it also works great for scrapbooking. This brand was a bit sturdier than I like it to be for sewing projects, but it’s great for this purpose. It’s made by Printworks.

image

So I did one 2 page layout using that large canvas photo of my daughter and my neice, and another 2 page layout using 4 photos of my daughter and nephews.

image

It was so much fun, I hope to get another video up by monday… or perhaps Roo might wanna do one too…  Weekends are always super busy so it’s hard to get stuff together, but we will try!

image

So anyway, we will surely share whatever we come up with next!  Have a great week!

Fitty & Roo

Scrapping Double with Fitty and Roo!

image

Last night Roo decided it was time she made her own crafty process video.  And I have to say she did a pretty darn good job…  lol.  She even narrated it!

Since I still wanted to use the same photo she stole from me… I decided to make a game of it and have Roo and I both scrap process the same photo.  So I made a part 1 with Roo, and a part 2 with me.

So here’s Roo’s layout!

image

She is OBSESSED with mists and masks!  Almost as much as modeling paste.  Had we not run out, she probably would’ve used that too…

image

So I call this a success because no ink was spilled! ( I just jumped in whenever I saw something about to fall off the table…  )  I think she’s definitely leaning toward a more mixed media preference…  I think her finished product is beautiful!  Even though at some point I think she says that she wished she had purple mist…

And here is mine:

image

I used one mask and one mist.  lol.   We both used watercolors. And we both used the same Heidi Swap Heart embellishments.

image

That black ink is just a speedball India Ink.  My new fav…  when you want the blackest black.  Though I have no other black ink to compare to…  it does the job quite nicely enough that I’m not looking.

And here are our process videos!

Hope you like em’!

HAPPY JULY 4th!   Hope everyone has a safe, happy, and blessed weekend!

Hi… Do you like my Rainbowface?

image

Hey ya’ll.  It’s time for the YOUTUBE Layout HOP again!  It’s been FOREVER since I’ve scrapped. And a couple weeks ago I told myself I had to join the hop so I could get back into getting messaaaay!  (messy)

So this month’s theme is the POLKA! So I got out my accordian and played it while my legs took turns lifting eaches rescpective foot.  ( I just looked up “eaches” and yea no.. not a word..)  Lemme try again: So I got out my accordian and played it while each foot was lifted in turn by it’s respective leg!  ?  Well, anyway, you know the dance right? So this is needless and null of point! Actually, I’m not even sure if you would do that in the dance, but in any dance usually a foot leaves the floor at some point…  I should’ve looked that up too! Why am I still talking about the POLKA when that isn’t even the theme anyway!  Upon further inspection, I realized that the POLKA had some dots after it.

So this months theme is: POLKA DOTS!

Which I thought would have been easy, but I actually had a hard time at first.  I had a bunch of scraps of polka dot paper,  but wasn’t really feelin’ it.  So, I decided to involve the Silouette and cut out a bunch of holes in a 12×12 page to make it look like it was polka dotted.

Then I used one scrap of polka dot paper, and one piece of polka dot fabric to show through the holes from underneath. And TADA: Theme satisfied!

image

So I adhered the fabric and paper together with the good ol’ sewing machine. I went a little crazy…  But I needed some mess, it was looking to tidy.  Then I just stamped around and watercolored around… can’t say it’s my favorite layout… but I’ve learned to just keep going because your bad projects tell a story as well as the good ones.

The picture is of my daugher with a rainbow painted on her face.  I’ve posted before about her fascination with facepaint.  So ever since we finally got ourselves a kit at home, we facepaint frequently.  So this day was no different… I feel like it was snowing or raining or something…   so we just stayed in all day.

image

So I only used a couple little cards to layer under the picture, and then used letter stickers and wood veneer letters for the title.

image

I do like how some of the fabric got pushed up into the holes.  So there’s that…  ha…

image

So the Youtube Layout Hop involves making a video, so here is the process for this layout:

By the way, the word POLKA literally means Polish lady.  You’re welcome.

New Jersey Scrapbook

So in order to learn about New Jersey, we’re putting together a kinda scrap book. We started it on ART day last week and it’s going to be a more long term project. We’ll add to it as we get more information. (I know what you’re thinking… isn’t every day ART day?) The answer is yes. Every day is ART day in some fashion… but since thursdays in middle school were with my fav Art teacher Mrs. Falk, I’ve just designated that day to be Art day here.

I used one of these binder handbooks that have just a kraft kinda cover so you can paint em, or glue stuff to em… really anything. You could even wallpaper em if you want.
Scrapbook-homeschool-fitty-new jersey-art-craft-geography

I honestly haven’t been to a craft store in a while, so I’m not sure if other brands make these… in this size. But you could also get one that’s already got a pattern on it… Or just use a regular old binder with the clear pocket in front to add a title. Anything!

Scrapbook-homeschool-fitty-new jersey-art-craft-geography-1

Eleanor decided she wanted to paint it like the beach because that’s her favorite part of New Jersey. So she made a sky… a little bit of grass… the water…

And then she got the idea to add some shells that were in the Hermit crab cage. And we actually did get em from the Jersey Shore, so it was perfect.

Scrapbook-homeschool-fitty-new jersey-art-craft-geography-5

And then I introduced her to modeling paste. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

SHE’S NOW ADDICTED. to modeling paste.

It started as just making some texture for the sand at the bottom… then it turned into a way to glue on the shells… it was everywhere! But that’s ok, because that’s why Grandpa made us these craft tables for easy clean up! Plus this sewing mat I have just ends up being a paint, glue, mess catcher anyway. But don’t worry too much about your kids doing any damage with modeling paste. It gets almost gummy when you wet it, so it peels off of most surfaces.

So anyway, now she wants to use modeling paste for everything. She used it in place of a glue stick in the book to attach paper to paper…

but hey, it’s her book so I let her do whatever she wanted!

And of course she topped it off with pink Color Shine and pink glitter. For the inside front page, we drew a picture of New Jersey and colored it.

Scrapbook-homeschool-fitty-new jersey-art-craft-geography-3

Yes, that’s modeling paste holding on that “Home sweet Home” card…

Scrapbook-homeschool-fitty-new jersey-art-craft-geography-4

So far her favorite thing she learned was the the State fruit was the blueberry… because she loves to eat em and one of her buddies Connor calls them Bloobs… I should ask him how he spells that.. Bluebs? Seems like I can get in trouble with that one…

Scrapbook-homeschool-fitty-new jersey-art-craft-geography-2

She can’t seem to remember who the Governor is, but the capital sticks a bit better. lol.

So anway, it’s a work in progress… we’ll update when we get more in there.

Happy MONDAY!

God Bless New Jersey!
